It seems that Floridians like gambling. And why not? Nothing beats the sounds of clinking money and the roulette ball banging against that black and red wheel. In 2005, twelve million Floridians were recorded to have taken trips strictly for the sake of gambling. Florida generated more casino gambling trips in 2005 than all but four states. According to the Nation Profile Study and US Gaming Pool, two surveys showed that 52.8 million, or 25 percent of the 209 million adults in the US gambled at a casino last year. Florida ranked 11th last year.
Although Tampa and Orlando were below the national average, of the state’s larger cities, Miami produced a higher than average gambler participation, with a total of 30 percent. New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas led the nation in generating gambling trips among its residents. Those are pretty large numbers for Florida regarding the gambling sector in the US.
According to the report, the median household income of casino gambling fans is almost US 8,000 dollars higher than the national median. The report also said casino players are more likely than non-gamblers to have pursued higher education and to hold a white-collar job. The median age and gender profile of gambling lovers reflected in the report is almost identical to the national adult population. If another study is conducted this year, it will be interesting to see the numbers that Florida produced among its gambling population.
